Overview

In January 2023, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority submitted a project permit application to install and operate two navigational aid platforms approximately 100m off the coast of the Burnaby Refinery at Berry Point, Burnaby, British Columbia. The proposed project is in federal waters managed by the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority. As part of the Project and Environmental Review under the Impact Assessment Act, the proposed project was posted on the Canadian Impact Assessment Registry with an opportunity for public comment between November 21 and December 20, 2023. The port authority will conduct consultation activities with stakeholders and Indigenous groups. About the project The Applicant proposes to install and operate two navigational aid platforms (i.e., range light towers). The Project is required to facilitate the movement of vessels through the Second Narrows Traffic Control Zone 2 (TCZ-2) as part of the Port Authority Active Vessel Traffic Management Program. Four piles will be driven into the seabed at each location. Other components of the range light towers (e.g., range platform, tower, tower solar array, etc.) would be prefabricated offsite into modules and installed upon pile installation.
