Overview
On March 29, 2022, a project permit was issued to Richardson International Limited submitted a project permit application to install two new spouting runs into the existing workhouse at 375 Low Level Road, North Vancouver, British Columbia. The project is on federal lands managed by the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority.
The project was approved subject to 25 permit conditions that Richardson International Limited must meet to ensure the project does not result in significant adverse environmental effects. Please see the Impact Assessment Act Registry for the Notice of Intent and Notice of Decision.
About the project
Richardson International Limited are proposing to install a new grain elevator leg, bulkweigher, conveyor belts, and associated spouting (Leg 5) into the existing workhouse at the North Vancouver Richardson grain terminal. The majority of the works will comprise installations inside the existing building envelope. However, minor external works are also proposed and these are described in more detail below. The footprint of the building will not change.
The primary function of Leg 5 is for equipment redundancy and overall equipment efficiency. The proposed Richardson Railyard Extension project (21-057), if approved, is estimated to increase terminal throughput by 0.5 million metric tonnes per annum, the construction of Leg 5 helps to achieve this.
Project activities and components include:
External works are proposed, which comprise:
- The installation of two new spouting runs between the workhouse and the top of the shipping bins.
- The installation of a structural frame to protect and give maintenance access to the slip joint unions on the two new spouting runs.
