Overview
On June 28, 2024 a project permit was issued to applicant to develop Queensborough dike shoreline protection rehabilitation, located on the shoreline north of 345 Gifford Street, in New Westminster, British Columbia on federal lands and water managed by the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority.
The project was approved subject to 36 permit conditions applicant must meet to ensure the project does not result in significant adverse environmental effects. Please see the Impact Assessment Act Registry for the Notice of Intent and Notice of Decision.
About the project
The City of New Westminster is proposing to rehabilitate and stabilize a failing segment of existing rip-rap shoreline protection, approximately 130 metres in length, along the Queensborough Dike.
The Project would consist of:
- Site preparation, including removal of vegetation, anthropogenic debris, existing rip rap and profile and grading the slope
- Placement of geotextile, filter rock, rip rap and fill, if required
- Vegetation planting on the rip rap bench and riparian area
