New centralized scheduling system for commercial ships to improve reliability, safety and efficiency at the Port of Vancouver

The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority today launched a new centralized scheduling system for commercial ships—the first of its kind at a Canadian port—designed to enhance the safety, reliability and efficiency of goods movement at the Port of Vancouver.

​Post-strike recovery – anchorage allocation measures​

The 13-day-long strike action has significantly disrupted port operations. As a result, a number of commercial vessels are currently waiting offshore to enter the Port of Vancouver and proceed with cargo loading or unloading operations. Unfortunately, due to the limited availability of anchorages at the Port of Vancouver and in the South Coast region, it is not feasible to accommodate all vessels simultaneously.

Port authority applauds Minister O’Regan’s request for mediator to recommend settlement proposal

After nearly two weeks of labour dispute between the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) Canada and the British Columbia Maritime Employers Association (BCMEA), the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority is pleased to see progress made towards a deal, following Minister O’Regan’s request for a federal mediator to send a settlement proposal.
