Security video surveillance systems at the Port of Vancouver
As the federal agency responsible for the stewardship of the Port of Vancouver, we have a mandate to enable Canada’s trade through the Port of Vancouver. As part of that mandate, we’re required to maintain safety and security throughout port lands and waters. To help us do this, we use a security video surveillance system (CCTV cameras) to capture images of various areas within the port’s waters and lands.
Here are a few things to keep in mind when you’re doing business or visiting sites throughout our jurisdiction:
- Cameras are used to monitor the activities of port authority offices (such as Canada Place) and vehicle access control gates for the safety of both the people and for the protection of port authority assets
- Images captured through our surveillance system may be used for identification purposes, and may be disclosed to a law enforcement agency if criminal activity is suspected or suspicious activity is identified
Your personal information is administered in accordance with the Canada Marine Act, Marine Transportation Security Act, the Privacy Act, and other applicable laws. If you have concerns with your images being captured on camera at the Port of Vancouver, you can contact the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. You can also direct questions about our CCTV video footage to the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority Operations Centre at 604.665.9086 or 100 The Pointe, 999 Canada Place, Vancouver, British Columbia, V6C 3T4.
